Today I want to begin a dialogue to describe what I believe to be the make-up of a salesman.  I will address many of the things that I believe are essential traits, virtues, qualities, mannerisms, attributes and behaviors of a salesman.  Later on in the discussion we will add the adjective “successful” to the description, but in the beginning we won’t make that part of this.  I promise we will get there.

Let us start with one of the elements that I believe to be the single most important of these: PASSION   Webster defines passion as “any compelling emotion” PASSIONATE is defined as “having or compelled by intense emotion”.  I guess the emotional part is where we will start.  I don’t know where passion comes from but in any sales endeavor, it is an important part of the process.  To me passion sets one apart from the rest.  It is hard to ignore or dismiss real passion.  When someone demonstrates honest emotion about a product or a project it is stimulating.  Passion will engage the listener and even cause them to think about the product or project.  Once that person is engaged the entire discussion moves to a higher level.  The questions are better and many times the outcomes are favorable.  Lead with passion, be more passionate in all that you do.  It will make life more interesting and exciting.  You will feel better about everything.  Your work, your relationships, your interactions with your children.  It will give you more energy to do everything.  Maybe there is something in the brain that kicks in when you are more passionate.  I know for me I feel like the Energizer Bunny when I am feeling passion about anything.  Look, we can talk about passion and imagine feeling it and introducing it into your everyday life, but it has to be real… you can’t just flip a switch and suddenly become passionate.  I invite you to think about it.  Address each scenario in your life with a little more passion… believe in what you are feeling… trust yourself to be genuine… the results will amaze you… Passion has always been an integral part of all that I do and it can be a real-life changer for you as well.  Enough said for now on passion.  Just agree to try to become more passionate in all that you do and reap the rewards.
