The Little People

Reference is made in movies, books, magazines, the internet, speeches and so on referring to “the little people”.  I am not talking about those of us that are vertically challenged.  Not small in stature.  We cannot be talking about celebrities like Oprah, Harrison Ford, Jimmy Fallon, Jerry Seinfeld, Meryl Streep and all the other personalities that we recognize, none of them are little people.  Sports people like Michael Jordon, Charles Barkley, Steph Curry, Aaron Rogers and Tom Brady couldn’t be considered “little”.  And then there is the whole political group, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Donald Trump and other famous politicians…no little people there.   There are the really rich and famous…the Queen of England, the Pope, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, George Lucas and Jeff Bezos.  Famous scientists, inventors, authors, doctors, musicians, singers…once you start to categorize these people it is almost overwhelming, but how many of these people are there…thousands? Maybe world-wide even millions?  Many to be sure, but that leaves billions more that are not household names.  People we don’t read about in the news, on TV, on ID, and the internet.  Who are these billions of unnamed individuals.  I used to get an image in my mind when someone made reference to, “the little people”.  They were referring to the people who cleaned houses, dug ditches, made deliveries and so on.  Boy, was I wrong and actually one could say I was letting prejudice, misconception and short sidedness creep into my thinking.   At the end of the day, “the little people” is US.  You and me.   We are all in that group.  We are the billions of people who buy things, wait in lines, read about the rich and famous, raise our children, go to church, love our families and our friends, make up the large number of cars in traffic, fly on airplanes, attend concerts, movies and sporting events.  We are not little we are everyone everywhere all the time.  We are all trying to make the world a better place.  I am proud to be a member of that group referred to by me as “the little people.”  I am quite comfortable there.
