The other day I was thinking about grade school. Not a subject that most of us would think about especially at my age. Thinking about grade school has to be relegated to a low spot on the list of things to think about. In any event, I was remembering my grade school classrooms. You know there is nothing cooler than what the teacher does to make each classroom special. I don’t think this is a skill that you learn in education classes to become a teacher. Is it a gift, is it a learned skill, is it something that all grade school teachers can do automatically or just a talent? For me, each of my classrooms and later each of the grade school classrooms for our children were decorated and adorned with amazing creativity and skill. We just take for granted that if a person is a grade school teacher they automatically know how to “Prepare their Classroom” for the next year. Then throughout the year to keep it fresh and interesting for the kids, that same teacher redecorates the room again and again. The level of expertise is amazing. The level of creativity is equally amazing. No one is paying me to say this I just believe that all of us who have children, grandchildren or great grandchildren in grade school need to take a look around each of their classrooms and begin to appreciate what each teacher is doing to make the experience for your kids something interesting and exhilarating. I believe that if the children were put in colorless, beige, grey and brown undecorated classrooms that somehow the learning experience would suffer. Keep it special, keep it colorful, keep it interesting. This little article is dedicated to all of those grade school teachers who help nurture and develop our children each day. I know that unfortunately those skills have been on hold for most of Covid but I know that is sure to change. I will look forward to the newly decorated classrooms coming soon.
