I think the first time I saw one of these signs on the back of an RV I thought it was funny. “I’m Spending My Kids Inheritance” or “We are Spending our Kids Inheritance and Loving It”. I see these things now and it is not the laugh riot that it once was for me. I mean even if it’s true, it seems a bit mean spirited to me. How would you characterize this thought process. Is it funny? is it something that you would want to share with the world? Who are you appealing to with this bold statement? Is it borderline irresponsible? In my case… even if I was actually doing that, would it make sense to rub it in my kids face? It wouldn’t be the first time that I was being irresponsible. I know that in my world my children would want me to enjoy life. They would want me to exhaust all of my money on even frivolous pursuits if it made me happy. Even with that support I don’t think it would follow that I should make sure that they know I am spending their inheritance. “Sorry Kids, Its All Spent” or “Living My Best Life, Spending The Kids Inheritance”, it still doesn’t have the right ring to it. At the same time it doesn’t make sense to save everything until you die. There must be a happy medium. I want it both ways. I want to enjoy my senior life and give my children something also. That to me makes the most sense. I think the sign on my RV, if I had one, might read, “I Am Loving Life, Spending a Good Portion of My Kids Inheritance.” I will just leave it at that.
More Fun On The Road
Since we are talking about signs on RV’s it brings me to those things that have been with us for as long as cars have been driven around…Bumper Stickers…I am not really a bumper sticker person but many of you are. Recently we have seen… “Thank You—Healthcare Heroes”…a familiar one is “Baby on Board”, “Save the Bees”… really? “How’s My Driving… Call 1-800 EAT Sh_T!!” very offensive. How about one of the most annoying ones…”I may be slow but I’m ahead of You”…that could actually incite Road Rage if read by the wrong person. I looked up Bumper Stickers and the content is whatever you want to make it. Some innocent, some inspirational, some downright nasty. “My child is an Honor Student at XYZ Academy”….That one is good but what happens after that child leaves home. How do you get that sign off your bumper. Some of these signs which were so cool at the time may not come off. Do you need to change the bumper, or ruin it by trying to scrape off the “Live, Laugh, Love… if that doesn’t work Load, Aim and Fire” and warning to “Please Be Patient… Student Driver” or simply cover it up with a bumper sticker with a more current message… Like… “Save The Planet”. I saw one the other day that I liked… “I Solemnly Swear a Lot”. Whatever your inclination, if you want to make a statement on your bumper there are thousands of opportunities to do that. I remain a non-bumper sticker guy, but I still enjoy reading these when I am not counting Prime trucks or trying to decipher the meaning of a personalized license plate. With all these distractions and possibly missing a Prime semi-truck, I am sure that I will eventually get into an accident. Here’s to driving responsibly and minimizing the distractions, except that the Prime truck count must be maintained.
