I have been writing this blog now for almost a year. I have not given any serious thought to who might read it. The subjects are all over the place. I actually thought that all I needed to do was write stories that readers would find interesting or funny. I guess I have been mostly writing for myself and my family. The feedback so far has been largely positive. Of course, the people reading it are family so I guess that taints the sample. They will like it or at least say they do because I am writing it. I guess if it was really bad I would hear that but so far mostly positive. My son Jeff who is also the administrator and orchestrator and the creative person behind the blog has asked me some very direct questions recently which caused me to consider why I was even doing this thing and where was it going. Who is the audience? Who are you writing to? How do you grow the readership? Who are the people who might be able to relate to what you are saying, and the subjects you are talking about? I was living in a dream world thinking that I could just write these stories and magically there would be a growing readership that enjoyed and appreciated what I was saying. Such is not the case. He said that I need to be the marketer of my product. That product is the sum total of what I have written about. We are considering who the audience will be and will try to create content that hopefully will cause them to want to read what is already there and want more.
I am 76 and I do spend a fair amount of time talking about things that happened in the 50’s and 60’s. I am a veteran and am now retired. I have raised 4 children and have 8 grandchildren and at this time have one great-granddaughter. I worked in real estate for many years and my last 30 years I have been a paper salesman. Not like “The Office”. I sold napkins, paper towels, and toilet paper. My wife Kathy of 53 years passed away in December 2020. That was the catalyst that caused me to start writing the blog.
If you are over 50 I hope you will be able to relate to many of the things that I talk about. As I move forward I would invite you to share any ideas you might have about subjects that I could write about. Most of the Half Acre posts are family related. The Sales posts are about selling. The Anything and Everything can be about anything. The Good News posts are also about a variety of subjects. I try to write about things that I know something about so that the articles have some level of credibility. I enjoy the process, I love writing and I have a great deal of passion for most of the things I write about. There are a lot of us over 50 and I look forward to hearing from you. I hope that you will be able to relate to the things I talk about. I also hope that you find some of these things funny. If I brighten your day, cause you to reflect on your life and times, bring back memories from the past, and make you think about the good times you shared with your family and also things related to your significant other. I talk about things that we all have experienced that cause us to be frustrated, events that changed our world, and of course the impact of the internet on all of us. This blog is designed to avoid anything controversial, it will have nothing to do with politics, race, gender, or religion. It sounds pretty boring but believes me that leaves plenty to talk about.
Hope you will visit the blog many times, comment on what you read, offer feedback, and make Hunsinger’s Half Acre a regular part of your day. I also invite you to subscribe to the newsletter which I send out once a month. Each installment offers three of the most recent posts.
